...I wrote one anyway. Definitely something I'll be picking at and tweaking for a while.
Driven
One purpose, one reason to remain.
The mysteries of existence intrigue me.
Driven to figure out life's puzzles.
My body fails but my mind is ever sharp
-as is my tongue, my only protection.
Driven to always ask why.
Sleepless nights, evening cigars.
My pain and piano my constant companions.
If I ever lose my drive--

Kewl. :-) Aha! Another poet comes out of hiding... LOL Poets are like that. They rustle around in the bushes a bit before you ever get to see them. You *know* they're there, *somewhere,* but they can be a bit shy about putting in an appearance... ;-)
I enjoyed this piece. :-) Thanks for posting it. :-) It’s an insightful take on what makes House ‘tick.’ Now, no more 'hiding your light under a bushel!' ;-)
I've had the "one thing" speech from DNR rattling around in my brain since I saw it last Tuesday. Now, today, as I was strolling through a mall, I had an: I'm "just here for the music" moment... ;-) The song "One Thing" by Finger Eleven came on the PA system and my brain just went, "Aha! That's it. That's the perfect tune to go with this scene." :-) Lyrics: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/fingereleven/onething.html I'm sure my Muses will be running with this one... (Which, I’m *fairly* certain, is better than letting them 'run with scissors.' LOL) :-)

*LOL* Well, I'm not *shy*, I just honestly don't consider poetry my medium. I always feel very self-conscious writing it. (Plus there's a lot less room for error than with a story.)
Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you liked it. Hee...I don't know if I'd call my poetic non-abilities a "light," but I promise to post any others that come to mind.
What a good song. The video is on Launch at http://launch.yahoo.com/ar-287784---Finger-Eleven . Very appropriate song for House.
I know what you mean about mediums. :-) English is my mother tongue. But, if I had a second one, it would be poetry. :-) Verse is a pure and natural form of expression, for me. :-) If anything, you might say it’s *my* “one thing.” :-)
I like poetry because I can finish a project within 2-3 days, usually. It's sprinting, versus the 'marathon running' aspects of prose writing. Between my health and chaotic RL (real life), I need creative forms that I can finish before my energy level drops off or my life goes "kablooey!" LOL It's funny, but I've always described writing poetry like building a "house:" you do the framing, first, before you knock together everything else. Within chosen forms (haiku, blank verse, etc.) and structures (poetic devices, rhythm and meter), sound and meaning find a 'home.'
It is a very self-contained form of expression, though. Like Japanese flower arranging (Ikebana or Ka-do)... You get one object to arrange in its perfect setting and ideal form. If a petal or leaf is out of place, it spoils the entire effect. But, done correctly, it's the perfect execution of harmony balanced with beauty.
I'm looking forward to seeing your future endeavors. :-)
Thanks for the website addy. :-) I can just picture my Muses going, "heeeeeeeee!" when they see this one. LOL
Hugs,

Hey Sanlin,
I would love to see some of YOUR poetry sometime. I'm sure I could learn a lot by reading it. You have wonderful insights into poetry, whereas mine is limited to admittingly a guilty pleasure in (brace yourself)T.S. Eliot.
Health issues is precisely why I did a poem (and before, the limericks). It's hard for me to concentrate long enough to write more stories right now. (Not that there aren't vague ideas bouncing around in my head.)
Take Care,
PipTook
Pip, why in the world would Eliot's poetry be "a guilty pleasure"?
"And indeed there will be time
For the yellow smoke that slides along the street,
Rubbing its back upon the window-panes; 25
There will be time, there will be time
To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet;
There will be time to murder and create,
And time for all the works and days of hands
That lift and drop a question on your plate; 30
Time for you and time for me,
And time yet for a hundred indecisions,
And for a hundred visions and revisions,
Before the taking of a toast and tea."
"I should have been a pair of ragged claws
Scuttling across the floors of silent seas." --excerpts from "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" by T.S. Eliot http://www.bartleby.com/198/1.html
Eliot's verse is wonderful. :-) Auditrix is right. You should feel free to openly love such gorgeous and deeply visceral words. Eliot's poetry always hits me straight in the guts... (In a good way. LOL ;-) ) You never just *read* his works, you *experience* them, intensely.
If there's one great lesson to draw from him it's 'engage your readers’ senses.' Immerse them in your words and worlds, don't just be a tour guide with a loudspeaker standing on the sidelines. LOL
Since you asked so nicely LOL, it would be my pleasure to e-mail you some of my work. I write poetry and song lyrics. :-) That's my real 'work.' The fanfic stuff is just a bit o' fluff, for fun. ;-)
Hugs {{{{{PipTook}}}}} for all the health stuff. I'm glad to hear your doc will eventually have you feeling 'right as rain,' again. My conditions don’t take any holidays or give me 'time off for good behavior.' LOL But, it's okay, I'm used to it, after all this time. :-)
Hugs,
Sanlin
I don't see an e-mail addy for you: so, how about dropping me a line at sanlin70@hotmail.com and I'll send you some of my work. Fair enough? :-)
Hugs,
Sanlin
